ReplyDeletebought a 383 SON for my Soney A700 camera. It is much lighter and made of much cheaper materials. I use it when I need something less time consuming when doing family events. However, I still tend to use the much hardier 285 with my old film cameras. Unfortunately, it has a 600 volt triggering voltage which most DSLR's do not like and can cause them to fail. I think the 285 HV is just a little under 6 volts, but never bought one of them. For it's purpose the Vivitar 383 does the job and I can recommend it without reservations.
